Growing Great Communities through lifelong learning.

Heartlands Service Manager
Fixed Term Contract | 4 days a week | Tuesday–Friday

People person? Plugged into your community? The kind of human who just makes things happen?

REAP Wairarapa wants YOU (yes, you) to lead our Heartlands service in Martinborough — a warm, welcoming hub where the South Wairarapa community comes to get real help from a real person.

Heartlands exists because navigating government services shouldn’t feel like a maze. We’re the friendly face that helps rural and isolated communities cut through the red tape and get connected to what they need.

The Role

You’ll be the heartbeat of our Martinborough hub — keeping it buzzing, welcoming and genuinely useful for our community. Some days you’re helping someone sort their IRD stuff. Other days you’re running an agency clinic, backing your team, catching up with a community partner, pulling together an event, or just making sure the paperwork doesn’t pile up. Basically: you keep the wheels turning and the doors open.

You’ll get to know the people who matter — MSD/WINZ, IRD, South Wairarapa District Council, and the local legends who make this community tick. Strong relationships mean easier access to support, and that’s the whole point.

You might be our person if you:

  • know Martinborough and rural South Wairarapa like the back of your hand
  • talk to anyone, listen properly, and actually mean it
  • have led or organised a team, service, or community effort before
  • build trust easily, whether it’s with a client, a colleague, or a council officer
  • stay organised even when ten things are happening at once
  • can make good calls on your own without waiting to be told
  • are handy with Microsoft 365, Canva and Facebook
  • write reports people can actually understand
  • care about your community’s wellbeing

A tertiary qualification is a bonus, but we’re far more interested in what you’ve actually done and who you know.

The nitty-gritty

  • Based at Heartland Services, 39 Jellicoe Street Martinborough
  • Days: Tuesday–Friday, 4 days per week
  • Term: Fixed-term, 1 year
  • Start date: 13 October 2026
  • You’ll need NZ residency, a full clean driver’s licence, and to be up for Police Vetting
